The best garden design ideas are those that use colour well.
Choosing plants is like painting a room, it can affect the mood and personality of a garden. I like to use a restricted palette in my garden designs of colours that I know will work well together.
One of my favourite colour combinations is purple and lime green. The two colours contrast well each complimenting the other.
Black parrot tulips add sophistication to this spring border of sage, heuchera and alchemilla mollis.
Listed below are a few of my favourite plants that I like to use in this colour scheme.
Purple: Aquilegia vulgaris var. stellata ‘Black Barlow’, Helleborus × hybridus ‘Harvington Shades of the Night’, Hemerocallis ‘American Revolution’, Sambucus nigra f. porphyrophylla ‘Gerda’, Tulipa ‘Black Parrot’, Cotinus coggygria ‘Royal Purple’ and Cornus alba ‘Kesselringii’.
Lime green: Euphorbia amygdaloides var. robbiae, Hakonechloa macra ‘Alboaurea’, Cotinus coggygria Golden Spirit (‘Ancot’), Hydrangea paniculata ‘Limelight’, Alchemilla mollis, Spiraea japonica ‘Goldflame’ and Heuchera ‘Lime Rickey’.
