There is nothing to beat the taste of your first dug new potatoes. We sampled our first ones yesterday simply washed, boiled and covered with salt, pepper and a knob of butter – perfection!
On our Hitchin allotment we get to dig our first early potatoes ahead of time as we plant them in our poly tunnel. Each year we try a different variety and these are Arran Pilot potatoes.
With a white skin and flesh they tasted great and kept their firm waxy texture which will make them good for salads too.
Their yield however wasn’t particularly good so I think next year we’ll try something else.
